JIC holds academic activities for communicative competence
Upholding English Proficiency for Communicative Competence was the theme of Power Speaking Department’s Biannual Activity on June 23 at the Function Hall. The activity focuses more on allowing the students to apply what they have learned in class. It helps them build their confidence, overcome their weaknesses, and most especially show what they’ve got.
Students had an intermission number. All Korean students rendered a song, all Japanese students danced, and all Taiwanese students introduced their cuisine in their country.
One of the games was “Charade”. It is a group game wherein members should guess the idiomatic expressions being acted by the actor. Student’s vocabulary bank was challenged. Winners received a P600 cash prize.
The highlight of the activity was the impromptu speech. Participants have to deliver a 4-minute speech with 2 minutes preparation time, and they were judged based on the following criteria: clarity of speech, content, organization of thoughts, presentation, and delivery. Student’s critical and analytical thinking were empowered and their English skills were enhanced.
